In Local We Trust

There is nothing more inspiring for me as a cook, then strolling through my local farmers market looking for fresh, new ingredients & products. I have been frequenting the La Jolla Open Aire Market  (LJOAM) on Sunday mornings for over 10 years now. With each trip I discover new ingredients, invent new recipes, and have…

a currant event

Today our inspiration is the color pink, and a unique pairing. Alright, I have to admit I strongly dislike  the color pink. I even find it difficult to write on pink Post-It notes; however, I am lucky this aversion does not apply to nature or food!  When we think of fresh summer fruit, currants don’t…

All figured out…

…it’s true, well at least when it comes to delicious figs on a crostini (though that pun was intended). I have to say I might be in love with this appetizer. Summer is really here…It is all about light, fun and easy recipes. Everyone’s busy with a sunny day picnic, a trip to the beach. Gee! I have to make sure the recipes I have are all summer-y. This would be a great addition. Thanks!

Danielle

As someone who makes this salad weekly during strawberry season (thanks to Lyndsy sharing the recipe), I can vouch for this one. And the dressing is so good you’ll want to drink it sans lettuce.

Thanks Dani & MyFudo! This salad really is a go-to amidst summertime, and I think if there is access to sweet & ripe strawberries, and really good summer, sweet corn, there is no reason not to bust this one pre-meal, or as a meal, or maybe more complete with a grilled balsamic checkin breast… or a fillet of salmon. And so on… I must be hungry! :) Balsamic and strawberries just seem to ‘work.’

This little piggy went to the market…

…the Farmer’s Market. And scored some truly fresh finds. For this healthy meal, organic cauliflower & carrots are making a comeback. This time however, they’re gonna get totally smashed! So long potatoes. And our pig? A center-cut, extra lean, pork tenderloin. We will slice into medallions, marinate, sear and top onto balsamic-wilted spinach & our roasted cauli-carrot smoked…
