Spring Loaded

So long winter, because as of today spring has officially sprung! This afternoon is a perfect example of what the season has in store - sunny skies, fresh produce, bright blooms & new beginnings! During this time of year, some of my favorite vegetables are ripe & ready, like asparagus, fava beans & sweet baby peas. It’s the time to spring clean our homes…

a Cuvée in every way

When you think of a special wine, what do you think of? For me, there is something drawing about a Vinter’s Reserve, because the winemaker has given that specific bottle their stamp of special approval. Sometimes there seems no reason or story to parallel the title, at least that you’ll ever hear. In other less common cases, there is… The heart of…

O’Lucky Libations & Brownies O’Guinness

…that a quality leprachaun would be proud of! After St. Patty’s dinner drink & dessert anyone? Once you’ve polished-off your golden pot of corn beef & cabbage, and your Guinness hath run dry, best the time for a hot, Irish-inspired beverage to sip. This drink is pretty close to a traditional Irish Coffee, but we’re going to change it up a bit!…

[...] Guinness Brownies: These were a FAIL. I made the batter according to the instructions, but I’m assuming I did [...]

Hi Bananas For Coffee: Thanks for the pingback. I am sorry these didn’t turn out so well for you!! I’m guessing from your post that it had to do with the reduction & addition of the Guinness. Mine reduced down to about 12 oz on stove (from the original 14.9 oz can). I added approximately 9-10 oz of that liquid into my batter slowly combining, till well incorporated, but mine wasn’t liquidy, but it was noticeably thinner than regular brownie batter. It baked up great!I will say the texture was very fudge-like. If you make again, I would reduce the Guinness down maybe even more to 7 oz or so, to avoid liquid texture. Hope they turn out better next time! They really are prefect with an Irish Coffee too! I also added a note into the recipe on my site to clarify the reduction step in case!

when life gives you lemon bars…

… Jackpot! And not just any little bar, but one made from a fresh Meyer variety straight from Grandma Amy’s tree! These homegrown lemons are some of the best I’ve tasted and so are these bars. Truthfully, I don’t usually like lemon flavored desserts because they always seem either too sweet or strong. However, this recipe has a very natural citrus taste that…

You are most welcome. I’m glad you tried and like them! I just about ate the entire pan myself and do like them room temp, but once you chill them, they are even better! Enjoy!

Starch Madness

It’s that time again for serious college sport spectating with your favorite malt beverage & some good food. Only seems appropriate we should get psyched for the game & soak-up the beer with some satisfying carbs. Though I will not be playing basketball probably ever in this life, I will be carb-loading as I ramp-up my pre-race mileage. What could be a better way to…
