Lucha Libre lunchin’ it

As it turns out, I wasn’t having a late lunch in the ring, but I did manage to wrestle-down a hunger-conquering surfer burrito and am confident I emerged victoriously! Okay, I only had half, but this burrito was ginormous and I had to drive home afterwards…

I am talking about the ever awesome California Burrito, if it was body slammed into a Surf n’ Turf. The epic result? A Cali-Mex burrito jem, the Surfin’ California. This one serves-up a generous helping of prime & tender carne asada, freshly grilled shrimp, all surrounded by fresh French fries, pico de gallo, avocado slices, shredded Jack cheese, and the secret house chipotle white sauce. Oh yes, I did! And I plan to do it again and again…

You might need to ask yourself a few questions before reading further…Do you love delicious So Cal Mexican food? Do you love an eclectically casual & festive atmosphere? Do you at least entertain the movie Nacho Libre? If so, you’ll want to continue…

This place is a local hotspot. I know because even at 3 p.m. there is a line out the door, but it’s worth the wait. They even have Ron Burgundy adorning their trash can, so I knew I was in the right spot. Despite the funky facade, Lucha Libre was established in Mission Hills, CA in 2008 and has come to be a local standard for quality, Mexican food with a modern & casual flare. Don’t let the pepto-pink painted walls and luchadores memorabilia fool you, this family-owned stop is fighting to bring you the affordable Mexican food, full of quality & creativity. If you feel like you might be a winner there, then call 24 hours in advance and sit amidst the golden adorned Champion’s Table; burritos never tasted fancier?! The Bros who started Lucha are still doing it well and they’re doing it fast! Get in line, get a burrito or delicious taco, some chips and sample their abundant homemade salsa bar. From verde, spicy red, to creamy cilantro-inspired, this place has got you covered.

They serve beer, they serve iced tea, & they serve thousands around the city. They even recycle people! Go get some, but make sure to come hungry! I’m looking forward to another visit and will have my game face ready.

You can visit them online, (the domain says it all), and at their restaurant located at:

1810 W. Washington Street, San Diego, CA 92110.
